Syngenta India inaugurates Farmers Resource Centre
Karnal, Haryana: Agri-technology company Syngenta India has inaugurated an Agriculture Technology Information and Farmers Resource Centre at the ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI) in Karnal, Haryana, marking a significant step toward promoting sustainable and technology-driven farming practices in the country.
The centre, launched on March 1 in collaboration with the Government of Haryana and ICAR-CSSRI, aims to serve as a single-window platform providing farmers with access to authentic agricultural information, modern cultivation techniques, and government schemes. The initiative focuses on improving soil health, salinity management, water-use efficiency, and adoption of climate-smart agricultural solutions.
A key highlight of the initiative is skill development for rural youth through training in drone technology for precision agriculture. The programme includes drone piloting and spraying techniques designed to enhance productivity while encouraging entrepreneurship in agri-allied sectors. The company said such efforts could help improve employability and reduce rural-to-urban migration.

The Farmers Resource Centre builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Syngenta India and CSSRI in October 2024 to strengthen collaboration in research, knowledge exchange, and farmer capacity-building. The partnership aims to improve crop productivity and resilience, particularly in saline and waterlogged regions that pose major challenges to Indian agriculture.
Officials noted that the facility will host field demonstrations, training sessions, and awareness programmes to promote safe and digital farming practices. The initiative also aligns with Syngenta India’s broader rural development efforts, including soil health programmes, water management projects, and its I RISE skill-enhancement initiative that has trained thousands of rural youth.
Industry observers view the centre as part of a growing push to integrate innovation, sustainability, and farmer education to address climate risks and evolving agricultural challenges in India.
