Governor Urges Agriculture Graduates to Work for Development of Farm Sector
The Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, has called upon newly graduated agriculture students to actively contribute to the development and modernization of the farm sector. Addressing graduates at a convocation ceremony of Assam Agricultural University in Jorhat, the Governor emphasized the vital role young agricultural professionals can play in strengthening India’s agricultural economy.
Kataria said agriculture remains the backbone of rural livelihoods and the national economy, and the country needs skilled professionals who can introduce scientific innovations and sustainable practices in farming. He urged graduates to work closely with farmers, understand field-level challenges, and help them adopt modern technologies that can improve productivity and income.
Highlighting the importance of research and innovation, the Governor encouraged students to focus on climate-resilient farming techniques, improved seed varieties, efficient irrigation methods, and better post-harvest management. According to him, the integration of science and traditional knowledge can significantly enhance agricultural sustainability and food security.
The Governor also noted that young graduates should take advantage of emerging opportunities in agri-entrepreneurship, agri-startups, and value addition. He stressed that agriculture today is not limited to cultivation alone but includes sectors such as food processing, agri-business, and digital agriculture.
University officials said that institutions like Assam Agricultural University have a major role in preparing skilled professionals who can address the changing needs of agriculture in the face of climate change and market demands.
Kataria expressed confidence that the graduating students would use their knowledge and expertise to support farmers and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector and rural development across the country.
