New agriculture officers undergo training at potato research institute in Shimla

March 22: Newly recruited Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs) underwent a specialised training and exposure programme at the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute in Shimla, aimed at strengthening agricultural extension services and enhancing field-level expertise.

The programme, conducted in collaboration with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute, brought together 37 officers as part of their induction training. These officers are expected to be deployed across various districts and blocks of Himachal Pradesh, where they will play a key role in supporting farmers.

The training focused on providing hands-on exposure to modern potato research and advanced cultivation practices. Experts and scientists from various divisions of the institute conducted technical sessions covering key areas, including seed production, crop management, disease control, storage systems, and innovative agricultural technologies.

Director of the institute, Brajesh Singh, highlighted the importance of scientific research in improving crop productivity and urged the officers to work closely with research bodies to benefit farmers. Meanwhile, SAMETI Director S K Gupta emphasised that the exposure visit was designed to bridge the gap between research and practical farming.
