Telangana Budget 2026-27
The Telangana government on Friday presented a ₹3.24 lakh crore Budget for 2026–27, maintaining largely unchanged allocations for key sectors such as agriculture, irrigation, and energy, even as it increased the overall outlay compared to the previous year.
Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka allocated about ₹23,179 crore to agriculture, ₹22,615 crore to irrigation, and ₹21,285 crore to the energy sector—figures that remain almost at the same level as last year, indicating a steady rather than expansionary approach to these core areas.
Despite the static allocations, the government emphasised continued support to farmers through flagship schemes. A major share of spending has been directed toward welfare initiatives, including ₹18,000 crore for Rythu Bharosa and ₹14,000 crore for power subsidies benefiting the farm sector.
The budget also earmarked substantial resources for rural development and irrigation-linked infrastructure, reflecting the state’s ongoing focus on agriculture-led growth. However, the lack of increased funding for these sectors has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who argue that repeating last year’s allocations may limit the scope for new projects and expansion.
Overall, the budget balances welfare commitments with fiscal discipline, with revenue expenditure pegged at over ₹2.34 lakh crore and capital expenditure at ₹47,267 crore. While the government highlighted continuity and stability in its approach, analysts note that unchanged allocations to farm, irrigation, and energy sectors could raise concerns about long-term investment needs in these critical areas.
