Odisha Agriculture Budget 2026-27 Explained – Pragativadi

The Odisha Legislative Assembly has approved a dedicated agriculture budget of ₹15,039.89 crore for 2026–27, signalling a strong push toward farmer welfare and rural development, according to a report by Pragativadi.

The budget highlights the state government’s focus on improving farm incomes, enhancing productivity, and building a resilient agricultural ecosystem. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo stated that pro-farmer policies have contributed to improved rural conditions, even claiming zero farmer suicides in the past two years.

Odisha’s agriculture sector has shown strong performance, recording a growth rate of 5.3%, higher than the national average. The state also achieved record foodgrain production exceeding 150 lakh metric tonnes and horticulture output of over 156 lakh metric tonnes.

Key initiatives in the budget include the Samrudha Krushak Yojana, under which paddy procurement is set at ₹3,100 per quintal, combining MSP and additional assistance. The government is also expanding cold storage infrastructure, promoting organic farming through the Balabhadra Jaivik Chasa Mission, and encouraging millet and “Amruta Anna” cultivation for temple use.

A major thrust has been placed on farmer collectivisation, with 1,791 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) now active, involving nearly 9 lakh farmers. Efforts are also underway to make the state self-sufficient in potato production and to strengthen agri-entrepreneurship.

Overall, the agriculture budget aligns with Odisha’s broader economic strategy, which allocates a higher-than-average share of expenditure to agriculture. It aims to create a climate-resilient, technology-driven, and farmer-friendly sector while boosting rural livelihoods and exports.
