Port Blair: The Kisan Mela–2026 cum Exhibition concluded successfully at the ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), drawing enthusiastic participation from farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, students, and extension workers across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The two-day event served as a vibrant platform for showcasing innovative agricultural technologies tailored for island ecosystems. Scientists from various divisions of the institute demonstrated climate-resilient crop varieties, integrated farming systems, organic farming practices, and improved livestock and fisheries technologies suited to local conditions.

In his inaugural address, the Director of ICAR-CIARI emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between laboratory research and field-level application. He noted that the mela aimed to empower farmers with scientific knowledge and sustainable solutions to enhance productivity and income in the fragile island environment.

A major attraction of the exhibition was the display of high-yielding varieties of rice, pulses, spices, and horticultural crops developed specifically for island agriculture.
