Paddy Virus SRBSDV Outbreak in Haryana: Agriculture Minister Assures All.

Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana reassured the assembly that the government is actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to stop the spread of the virus.

He stated that a total of 40 lakh acres of land are cultivated for paddy cultivation in Haryana. Out of them, only 92,000 acres have been impacted by SRBSDV. He also mentioned that all agricultural scientists from CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, are working to address the situation.

About The SRBSDV (Southern Rice Black-Streaked Dwarf Virus)

SRBSDV is a viral disease affecting paddy crops, and it has also become a matter of national importance in many rice-producing areas of India.

It is spread by the white-backed plant hopper, which sucks the sap of paddy plants and transmits the virus from infected paddy to healthy paddy.

This virus was first reported in Haryana during the 2022 Kharif season. In Kharif 2023 and 2024, no virus outbreak was reported due to effective preventive measures and suitable field practices.

This year, before Kharif 2025, farmers were well-informed and took all measurements carefully, the agriculture minister stated.

The Congress MLA Aditya Surjewala, INLD MLAs Arjun Chautala and Aditya Devi Lal raised a question in the assembly regarding the outbreak of the virus in paddy crops in the Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Kaithal districts. And the Haryana Agriculture Minister, Shyam Singh Rana, assured them by focusing on the real facts and the steps that need to be taken by the government.
