What is PM-Kisan?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central sector scheme launched in December 2018 by the Government of India. It provides direct income support to landholding farmer families across the country.
Annual Financial Aid : ₹6,000 per year
Instalments : Paid in three equal parts of ₹2,000 every four months
Mode of Payment : Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the farmer’s bank account.
Benefits of PM-Kisan
Helps farmers cover costs for seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and labour
Reduces dependency on moneylenders and loans
Boosts the rural economy by injecting liquidity into farming communities
Encourages self-reliance and economic stability for small and marginal farmers.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for PM-Kisan benefits, farmers must:
Be Indian citizens
Own cultivable land (verified by land ownership documents)
Have a valid Aadhaar number
Not employed in government services
Not fall under exclusion categories such as:
Institutional landholders
High-income taxpayers
Retired pensioners with monthly pensions above ₹10,000 (except Group D employees)
Professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc., practice independently.
Application Process (Online)
Visit : PM-Kisan Portal
Click : “New Farmer Registration” under the Farmers Corner
Enter Details : Aadhaar, mobile number, bank account, and land ownership info
Verify OTP : Sent to your registered mobile
Upload Documents : Aadhaar, land papers, bank passbook, photo ID
Submit Form : Note your registration number for future reference
e-KYC Process (Mandatory)
e-KYC is compulsory to receive payments
Can be done via:
OTP-based verification on the PM-Kisan portal
Biometric verification at Common Service Centres (CSCs)
Face-scan e-KYC via the PM-Kisan mobile app.
