World Coconut Day 2025 Celebrated in Guwahati by Coconut Development Board

The Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Guwahati, under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, commemorated World Coconut Day 2025 at the Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Khanapara. This year’s celebration embraced the theme “Uncovering Coconut’s Power, Inspiring Global Action.”
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Manoranjan Neog, Director of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Neog emphasised the importance of high-quality planting materials and the adoption of scientific cultivation practices to improve productivity, ensure sustainability, and enhance farmer incomes.
A technical session followed the inauguration, bringing together experts and stakeholders to explore the prospects of coconut cultivation in North-Eastern India. Notable contributions came from Dr. Himadri Shekhar Datta, Associate Professor at the College of Horticulture and FSR, AAU, Nalbari, and Dr. Sarat Saikia, Principal Scientist at AAU-HRS, Kahikuchi. Both speakers highlighted region-specific strategies and the potential for coconut-based enterprise development.

As part of the celebration, an exhibition showcased coconut-based handicrafts and food products developed by entrepreneurs supported by the Coconut Development Board. The display highlighted the diverse potential of coconut in value addition, livelihood generation, and entrepreneurship.
