Sunflower Cultivation Guide 

Sunflower is a popular oilseed crop known for its high oil content and low maintenance. It grows well in warm climates and gives good returns.

Introduction  

Climate Requirement

– Best grown in warm weather  – Ideal temperature: 20°C–30°C  – Needs full sunlight for better yield

Soil Type

– Well-drained loamy soil is best  – pH level: 6.0–7.5  – Avoid waterlogged areas

Land Preparation

– Plough field 2–3 times  – Remove weeds and stones  – Add organic manure for fertility

Sowing Time

– Spring: January–February  – Kharif: June–July  – Rabi: September–October

Seed Selection

– Use high-quality hybrid seeds  – Seed rate: 4–5 kg per hectare  – Treat seeds before sowing to prevent disease

Irrigation

– First irrigation after sowing  – Critical stages: flowering & seed filling  – Avoid overwatering

Fertilizer Use

– Fir– Apply nitrogen, phosphorus & potassium  – Use organic compost for better growth  – Balanced nutrients increase yield

Pest & Disease Control

– Common pests: aphids, caterpillars  – Use neem oil or recommended pesticides  – Regular field monitoring is important

Harvesting

– Ready in 80–120 days  – Harvest when back of flower turns yellow  – Dry seeds properly after harvest
