Potato farming is the cultivation of one of the world’s most widely consumed crops. It is easy to grow and highly profitable with proper care.
– Cool weather crop – Ideal temperature: 15°C – 25°C – Avoid extreme heat or frost
– Well-drained sandy loam soil – pH level: 5.5 – 6.5 – Add organic compost for better yield
– Use certified seed potatoes – Select disease-free tubers – Cut into pieces with 2–3 eyes each
– Plant 5–10 cm deep – Spacing: 45–60 cm between rows – Keep soil loose for tuber growth
– Light irrigation after planting – Avoid waterlogging – Regular watering during tuber formation
– Use nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium – Add compost or manure – Avoid overuse of fertilizer
– Watch for aphids and beetles – Use organic pesticides – Practice crop rotation
– Ready in 90–120 days – Leaves turn yellow and dry – Harvest carefully to avoid damage
– Proper spacing & irrigation – Use quality seeds – Follow good farming practices
