Methi Cultivation Guide 

Methi (fenugreek) is a fast-growing leafy vegetable and spice crop. It is widely used in Indian kitchens and has excellent nutritional and medicinal value.

Introduction 

Methi grows best in a cool and dry climate. Ideal temperature: 10°C to 25°C Perfect for winter cultivation in most regions. 

Climate Requirements 

– Well-drained loamy or sandy loam soil is best  – pH level: 6.0 to 7.0  – Add compost or organic manure for better yield

Soil Preparation 

– Use healthy, good-quality seeds  – Sow directly in soil (no transplanting needed)  – Spacing: 20–25 cm between rows  – Depth: 1–2 cm 

Sowing Seeds 

– Light watering immediately after sowing  – Maintain moderate moisture  – Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot

Watering Needs 

– Apply organic compost or vermicompost  – Nitrogen-rich fertilizers help leafy growth  – Avoid excessive chemical fertilizers 

Fertilizer Application 

Common issues: aphids, powdery mildew – Use neem oil spray  – Ensure proper spacing for air circulation 

Pest & Disease Control 

– Ready for harvest in 20–30 days (leaves)  – For seeds: 90–110 days  – Cut leaves gently for regrowth

Harvesting 

– Rich in iron, fiber, and vitamins  – Improves digestion and blood sugar control  – Easy to grow in pots, balconies, or fields
