Methi (fenugreek) is a fast-growing leafy vegetable and spice crop. It is widely used in Indian kitchens and has excellent nutritional and medicinal value.
Methi grows best in a cool and dry climate. Ideal temperature: 10°C to 25°C Perfect for winter cultivation in most regions.
– Well-drained loamy or sandy loam soil is best – pH level: 6.0 to 7.0 – Add compost or organic manure for better yield
– Use healthy, good-quality seeds – Sow directly in soil (no transplanting needed) – Spacing: 20–25 cm between rows – Depth: 1–2 cm
– Light watering immediately after sowing – Maintain moderate moisture – Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot
– Apply organic compost or vermicompost – Nitrogen-rich fertilizers help leafy growth – Avoid excessive chemical fertilizers
Common issues: aphids, powdery mildew – Use neem oil spray – Ensure proper spacing for air circulation
– Ready for harvest in 20–30 days (leaves) – For seeds: 90–110 days – Cut leaves gently for regrowth
– Rich in iron, fiber, and vitamins – Improves digestion and blood sugar control – Easy to grow in pots, balconies, or fields
