Introduction

Rice is one of the most important staple crops in the world. It requires warm climate, water, and proper care for good production.

Climate Requirements

Rice grows best in: – Temperature: 20°C to 35°C  – High humidity  – Plenty of sunlight  Ideal for tropical and subtropical regions.

Soil Type

Best soils for rice farming: – Clayey or loamy soil  – High water retention capacity  – Good fertility

Land Preparation

Steps include: – Ploughing the field  – Leveling the land  – Flooding with water  This helps in weed control and better growth.

Seed Selection

Choose: – High-yield variety seeds  – Disease-resistant seeds  – Certified seeds for better productivity

Sowing Methods

Two main methods: Broadcasting (scattering seeds)  Transplanting (most common and effective)

Irrigation

Rice needs plenty of water: – Maintain 2–5 cm water level  – Drain before harvesting  – Avoid water shortage during flowering

Fertilizers & Nutrients

– Nitrogen (for growth)  – Phosphorus (for roots)  – Potassium (for strength)  Organic manure improves soil health.

Weed & Pest Control

Control weeds and pests by: – Manual weeding  – Using herbicides  – Monitoring pests regularly

Harvesting

Rice is ready when: – Grains turn golden yellow  – Moisture reduces  Harvest using sickle or machines.

Conclusion

Rice farming can be highly profitable with proper techniques, water management, and quality seeds.
