Eggplant Cultivation Guide

Eggplant, also known as brinjal, is a popular vegetable grown across India. It is easy to cultivate and gives good returns with proper care. 

INTRODUCTION

– Warm-season crop  – Ideal temperature: 20°C to 30°C  – Avoid frost and extreme cold 

Climate Requirement 

– Well-drained loamy soil is best  – pH level: 5.5 to 7  – Add organic compost for better yield

Soil Type 

– Use high-quality hybrid seeds  – Sow seeds in nursery beds  – Transplant after 25–30 day

Seed Selection & Sowing 

– Plough soil 2–3 times  – Mix farmyard manure (FYM)  – Ensure proper drainage system

Land Preparation 

– Water regularly but avoid waterlogging  – Irrigate every 7–10 days  – Critical stage: flowering & fruiting 

Irrigation 

– Use nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium (NPK)  – Apply organic manure  – Split fertilizer doses for better growth 

Fertilizer Use 

– Common pests: fruit borer, aphids  – Use neem oil or organic pesticides  – Regular field monitoring is important

Pest & Disease Control 

– Harvest after 60–80 days  – Pick when fruits are shiny and tender  – Regular picking boosts yield 

Harvesting 

– High market demand year-round  – Good income with proper management  – Suitable for small and large farms
