NMPF Applauds House Agriculture Committee for Advancing Farm Bill with Dairy Wins

NMPF Applauds House Agriculture Committee

The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) has welcomed the decision of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee to advance a new farm bill that includes several provisions aimed at strengthening the dairy sector and supporting farmers across the United States.

The committee recently approved the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, moving it closer to consideration by the full House of Representatives. The bill passed the committee with bipartisan backing following extensive debate, signaling progress toward updating U.S. farm policy after the previous farm bill expired and required temporary extensions.

In a statement, NMPF President and CEO Gregg Doud praised the committee’s action and thanked lawmakers for including measures that benefit dairy farmers and cooperatives. He said the legislation contains “key provisions that support and strengthen the dairy industry,” and expressed hope that both chambers of Congress would work together to pass a final bill later this year.

The federation highlighted several dairy-related provisions in the bill. These include extending key programs such as the Dairy Forward Pricing Program, Dairy Indemnity Program, and the Dairy Promotion and Research Program, which help provide stability and support for dairy producers. The bill also calls for long-term surveys of dairy processing costs to improve pricing mechanisms within federal milk marketing orders.

Other measures focus on expanding nutrition initiatives and market opportunities. The legislation supports the Dairy Nutrition Incentive Program, encourages dairy purchases in federal nutrition programs, and strengthens export promotion initiatives to improve global market access for U.S. dairy products.

In addition, the proposal backs conservation programs benefiting livestock producers, promotes methane-reduction practices, and includes funding for international food aid products that use milk powder to combat malnutrition.

Industry groups say these steps are vital as dairy farmers face rising production costs and market uncertainties. The NMPF emphasized it will continue working with lawmakers to ensure the final farm bill delivers long-term stability and growth for America’s dairy sector.
