ICAR-CTCRI Organises Farmers

Pallakkal, Tirunelveli: The ICAR–Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (ICAR-CTCRI) organised a farmers’ training and input distribution programme at Pallakkal village in Tirunelveli, aiming to strengthen the adoption of improved tuber crop cultivation practices among local farmers.

The programme focused on promoting scientific farming techniques for tuber crops such as cassava, sweet potato, and yams. Scientists and agricultural experts from ICAR-CTCRI interacted with farmers and shared practical knowledge on improved varieties, pest and disease management, soil health maintenance, and sustainable cultivation methods. The initiative sought to help farmers increase productivity while reducing input costs and environmental impact.

During the training session, experts highlighted the importance of quality planting materials, balanced nutrient management, and proper crop spacing to achieve higher yields. Demonstrations were also conducted to familiarize farmers with modern cultivation practices and crop protection strategies. The programme encouraged farmers to adopt climate-resilient varieties and improved agronomic practices suited to the region’s conditions.

As part of the initiative, farmers were provided with quality planting materials and essential agricultural inputs to support the upcoming planting season. The distribution included improved varieties of tuber crops developed by ICAR-CTCRI, which are known for their higher yield potential and resistance to pests and diseases.
