Anand Mahindra Praises Farmer Who Grew a Mango That Doesn’t Wait for Season
Imagine a world where mangoes aren’t limited to just one season, but can be enjoyed several times a year. That vision is steadily becoming reality, thanks to an innovative farmer from India. The innovation comes from Shree Kishan Suman, a farmer from a village near Kota. Like many others, Suman began his journey cultivating wheat and rice, but inconsistent returns pushed him to explore alternatives. His first shift was into floriculture, where he developed a unique rose plant that blooms in seven colours. This spirit of experimentation eventually guided him toward mango grafting.
During his work, Suman observed an unusual mango tree that flowered multiple times a year. Intrigued, he spent over a decade refining and stabilising this trait. The result was a new variety, Sadabahar, capable of producing fruit up to three times a year.
A Game-Changer for Farmers and Mango Lovers
According to The Better India, the Sadabahar mango is already generating significant interest nationwide. With a taste similar to Alphonso mango, low fibre content, and rich flavour, it has impressed both farmers and agricultural researchers. Saplings are gradually being planted in orchards beyond Kota, including on private farms and even at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
While scientists continue to study how this variety performs across different climates, its potential impact is immense. As Mahindra noted, “If this variety proves successful across regions, it could redefine mango cultivation and offer farmers a more stable and profitable future.”
