Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a post-Budget webinar on “Agriculture and Rural Transformation” on March 6 via video conferencing, emphasizing the need to accelerate implementation of agricultural reforms and strengthen India’s rural economy following the Union Budget 2026–27.
The webinar was part of the government’s annual post-Budget consultation process aimed at engaging stakeholders, experts, farmers and industry representatives to translate budget announcements into actionable strategies. The event saw wide participation from across the country, including around 16 lakh farmers who joined the live broadcast through Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras and other digital platforms.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of making Indian agriculture export-oriented and globally competitive. He encouraged farmers and industry leaders to leverage India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions to increase productivity and meet international quality standards. According to him, expanding high-value agriculture and promoting value addition through processing can create more employment opportunities in rural areas.
Discussions during the webinar covered several sectors including agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and rural livelihoods. Participants also explored opportunities offered by digital public infrastructure for agriculture, private investment in agri value chains, and expanding markets for products made by rural women entrepreneurs.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that suggestions emerging from the webinar would help fast-track implementation of budget initiatives and give new momentum to India’s agricultural growth and rural development.
